Although the Forum focuses on world economic development
challenges, it focuses on the development of sustainable progress and
prosperity through collaboration at the local community level.
It is not intended to be a "talking shop" to address
government policy issues, economic trends, or business issues in general at
the "macroeconomic" level. It is not a lobbying organization. |
|
The focus is on achieving specific goals at the local
community level in many communities. The macro focus is on growing
that local impact in the aggregate through success in many places. |
|
The GDI Forum differs from traditional business forums,
chambers of commerce, executive clubs, or other groups which focus on
organizing local events and services to sustain such organizations.
Instead, the focus of the Global Direct Investment Forum is
on creating an efficient global network of leaders who can work together to
address great economic development challenges efficiently. |
|
The GDI Forum is a network of business leaders with common
interests. The Foundation is the organization through which they
invest in action on their shared interests, such as social entrepreneur
ventures or communities in transition. This work of the Foundation is
similar to business mentoring and early stage ("angel") venture capital to
help drive self-sustaining innovation in this market. |
|
The investments are not expected to be ongoing commitments
like donations to many non-profit organizations. Instead, like a
"sunset" policy or exit strategy, there should be a clear plan to not
require further investments by members to achieve the objectives in one
place. The
investments are like seed money to overcome local challenges, rather than
annuity commitments in perpetuity. |

Additional information will be added here about the
relationship between the Foundation and the Forum as both organizations grow
in cooperation with the initial members. |
